What does laser vision correction involve?
Laser vision correction is a minimally invasive refractive surgery procedure that involves precisely modelling the shape of the cornea using a cool laser beam. This ensures that light entering the eye is once again focused correctly on the retina and that everyday vision becomes clear and comfortable - without glasses or contact lenses.

How does laser vision correction work at BLIKPOL?
Modern laser eye surgery uses two different types of laser..
- femtosecond laser — is responsible for the precise preparation of the corneal layers (e.g. creating a corneal flap in FemtoLASIK or a corneal lens in SMILE Pro),
- excimer laser - shapes the surface of the cornea, correcting a specific visual defect.
In PRK and EBK the excimer laser alone is sufficient. In FemtoLASIK, PRESBYOND® and SMILE Pro both lasers are used. With myopia, the cornea is gently flattened, with hyperopia the cornea is emphasised, and with astigmatism the corneal irregularities are smoothed out. The entire procedure is safe, painless and supported by eye-tracker technology.
Who can perform the procedure?
You may benefit from laser vision correction if:

- Age: You are at least 18 years old and your visual defect is stable (no major changes for the last 2 years). Best results are usually achieved in people aged 21-50 years,
- General health: You do not suffer from autoimmune diseases, uncompensated diabetes, are not pregnant or breastfeeding,
- Eye condition: Your cornea is healthy and of adequate thickness. You have no active eye infection, keratoconus, glaucoma or advanced cataract.
Contraindications to laser eye surgery
Absolute contraindications:
- age under 18,
- pregnancy and lactation,
- unstable visual defect (change of more than 0.5 D in the last year),
- keratoconus and other corneal ectasias,
- advanced cataract, active glaucoma,
- active inflammation or infection of the eye,
- severe autoimmune diseases (lupus, RA in active phase),
- Uncompensated diabetes with ocular complications.
Relative contraindications (considered on a case-by-case basis):
- cornea too thin - often the solution is to choose a surface method (PRK, EBK) instead of FemtoLASIK,
- dry eye syndrome — requires early treatment,
- very large visual defects exceeding the range of laser correction - alternatives include phakic lenses or refractive lens exchange.

Nie istnieje jedna „najlepsza metoda". Istnieje metoda najlepsza for your eyes only — selected on the basis of the thickness and shape of the cornea, the severity of the vision problem, your lifestyle (sport, working at a computer) and the pace of recovery you require.
At the Blikpol Ophthalmology Centre, we offer a full range of modern methods of laser vision correction:
FemtoLASIK (£10,900) — the most frequently chosen method in the world. It combines a femtosecond laser (creation of a thin corneal flap) with an excimer laser (reshaping). Fast healing in 1–2 days, return to work usually in 2–3 days. A good choice for most patients with medium and higher vision defects.
SMILE Pro (12,900 zł) — the most advanced method available on the market. Flapless and minimally invasive — a femtosecond laser creates a thin lens (lenticle) deep within the cornea, which is then removed through an incision measuring a few millimetres. Lower risk of dry eye syndrome, short procedure time, rapid stabilisation of vision. Recommended, amongst others, for physically active people and sportspersons.
PRESBYOND® (14,400 PLN) – a laser treatment for presbyopia, i.e. problems with near vision that usually arise after the age of 40. It utilises ZEISS Laser Blended Vision technology, which creates what is known as a ‘blended vision zone’ – one eye is focused more on distance, the other more on near vision, and the visual ranges overlap to improve visual comfort at close range, intermediate distances and into the distance. This method can reduce the need for reading glasses, whether for computer work or everyday activities.
PRK Standard (5,900 zł) – a surface procedure in which the laser acts directly on the outer layer of the cornea, without creating a flap. Suitable for people with a thinner cornea, those in high-risk occupations (uniformed services, martial arts) and patients for whom FemtoLASIK or SMILE Pro are not possible. Longer recovery time (7–14 days).
EBK standard (7,900 zł) – Epi-Bowman Keratectomy. A safe, minimally invasive surface procedure in which the corneal epithelium is gently lifted using a special instrument (rather than being removed with alcohol or a laser). Personalised EBK further tailors the correction to the three-dimensional map of the eye.
A specific method is always recommended by your doctor following a full assessment — taking into account the thickness of your cornea, its topography, the extent of the defect and your expectations.

Vision correction methods
You don't have to choose the method yourself. During the qualification and consultation, together with the doctor, you will select the safest method for your vision.
Largest correction range FemtoLASIK
Recommended for standard defects. The laser creates a thin flap in the cornea under which the tissue is modelled. High precision, fast healing and minimal discomfort.

The most advanced method. The laser creates a microlens inside the cornea through a 2-3 mm incision. Minimal invasiveness

Powyżej 40 lat PRESBYOND®
Advanced presbyopia treatment method. The femtoseccond laser precisely creates a thin corneal flap of individually planned thickness and shape.

For thin corneas PRK
One of the first laser correction methods. We remove the corneal epithelium and shape the corneal surface with an excimer laser. Ideal for people with thin corneas and small defects.

How long does recovery take?
Full stabilisation takes up to 12 months, but improvement in vision is usually seen in the first few days. During this time, halo effects, night glare and dry eyes are possible - these usually gradually subside as the cornea heals.
Correction methods - how do they differ?
They differ in the correction range, the rate of healing and the post-procedure symptom profile. The choice is determined, among other things, by the thickness and shape of the cornea. The right method is recommended by your doctor after the consultation and a full analysis of your examination results.
Is laser vision correction covered by the National Health Fund (NFZ)?
Unfortunately, laser vision correction procedures are not reimbursed by the National Health Fund. We try to meet this by offering the possibility of spreading the payment into convenient instalments, in the amount selected by you. Applying for instalment financing through Santander or MediRaty is straightforward.
How much time off work will I need after surgery?
Depending on the method: SMILE / iLASIK iDesign / FemtoLASIK usually 2-3 days, after PRK/EBK about 7-14 days due to slower healing. Limit screen and exercise for a few weeks. Your doctor will advise on time off work on an individual basis.
Can my prescription worsen after surgery?
Serious complications are rare. More common temporary symptoms include: dry eye, halo or glare, fluctuations in visual acuity. Very rarely: infection or corneal ectasia. A thorough consultation and strict adherence to post-operative instructions are key.
Are the effects of the procedure stable in the long term?
Yes, the result is permanent. After the age of 40, presbyopia (need for glasses for nearsightedness) may appear - this is a natural process, independent of the previous defect and the course of laser vision correction.
How effective is laser vision correction?
Laser vision correction effectively corrects myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. In 98% of patients, vision after the procedure is as good as, or better than, with glasses or contact lenses. If the initial result is not as strong as expected, a re-treatment is available free of charge within the first year.
