    How soon after laser vision correction can I return to my normal activities?

    How soon after laser vision correction can I return to my normal activities?

    What do you need to know?

    • Laserowa korekcja wzroku pozwala szybko wrócić do codziennych aktywności, ale czas rekonwalescencji zależy od indywidualnych zaleceń lekarza.
    • After treatment, avoid rubbing the eyes, protect them from water, soap and UV light and use the prescribed drops.
    • You can usually return to work after 2-3 days, but it is important to avoid dust, smoke and other pollutants that can irritate the eyes.
    • Intense and contact sports are better postponed for at least a month, and swimming, pool and sauna are also postponed for about four weeks.

    Post-treatment recommendations can be highly individualised, but indicative times are provided in the subsections below:

    • driving - if you are having laser surgery, it is essential that you ask a friend or family member to pick you up from the surgery, or return by taxi. It is usually possible to „get behind the wheel“ the day after the surgery, however, we recommend that you do this only after your first follow-up appointment the following day, and arrange your own transport to the examination. Even if you seem to feel great in the morning and your eyes are already in good shape, your vision may still be stabilising in the first few days, so be more careful;
    • Showering/bathing - the day after treatment, it is safe to shower or bathe, provided care is taken to ensure that neither the water nor, still less, soap and other liquids get into the eyes. This maximum caution should be maintained for a minimum of one week after treatment;
    • returning to work - you can generally return to work just two or three days after the procedure, provided that you are not exposed to factors that are not conducive to healing in your workplace. These include dust, smoke, paint or varnish fumes and pollutants that could infect the healing eyes. It is important to remember to regularly use antibiotic drops, as well as moisturising drops, especially if your work mainly involves looking at a computer monitor or driving for long periods of time. If you have any doubts as to whether a particular type of work will harm your eyes, you should seek the advice of the treating doctor by whom the operation was carried out;
    • make-up - it is best to take your eyes off for at least a week. Apart from this, it is also advisable to replace cosmetics with new ones to avoid the risk of getting bacteria into the eyes, which can even be found on mascara, eye shadow or eyeliners;
    • physical exercise - it is better to avoid strenuous exercises, while those of lower intensity can be performed for a few days after the surgery, taking care, however, to avoid sweat getting into the eyes and to avoid rubbing them for at least two weeks. Weight lifting and head-down exercises such as bending should also be avoided, which can cause a temporary increase in intraocular pressure. Contact sports such as martial arts and team games are better avoided for at least one month;
    • swimming/pool/sauna - wait about a month.

    Ponadto, najlepiej nie podróżować w tym czasie do krajów mocno różniących się klimatem od miejsca, w którym mieszkamy, szczególnie w rejony gorące i o dużej wilgotności. Mimo pewnych pozabiegowych ograniczeń laserowa korekcja wzorku jest zabiegiem, na który warto się zdecydować – komfort zdrowych oczu i ostrości widzenia są bezcenne. Zabieg sprawdza się m.in. w leczeniu myopia, dalekowzroczności czy astygmatyzmu.
