Tonometria to metoda diagnostyczna służąca do pomiaru ciśnienia wewnątrzgałkowego (IOP – intraocular pressure), będącego kluczowym parametrem w diagnostyce i monitorowaniu jaskry oraz innych schorzeń oka.
Goldmann applanation tonometry involves measuring the force required to flatten a specific area of the cornea, while non-contact methods use a stream of air, eliminating the need for direct contact with the eye. Regular measurement of intraocular pressure is essential in diagnosing various forms of glaucoma, assessing the effectiveness of hypotensive treatment and monitoring patients at risk of developing the condition. Interpretation of tonometry results requires consideration of central corneal thickness (pachymetry), as a thinner cornea may underestimate and a thicker cornea may overestimate the actual IOP.
