Nystagmus, also known as nystagmus, is an involuntary, rhythmic movement of the eyeballs that can be horizontal, vertical, rotational or mixed. It can be congenital or acquired, and its causes include neurological disorders, problems with the balance system in the inner ear, trauma, eye disease, and the effects of certain medications. People with nystagmus may experience blurred vision, difficulty maintaining eye fixation on an object and problems with eye-hand coordination. Treatment nystagmus depends on the cause and may include drug therapy, surgery, the use of prism glasses or vision therapy to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.
