    PRESBYOND®

Laser correction of presbyopia after the age of 40. A method based on FemtoLASIK, which helps you see more clearly at close range, at intermediate distances and into the distance.

What is PRESBYOND® and how does it work?

PRESBYOND® is a method laser vision correction designed for people with presbyopia, a natural deterioration of near vision that usually occurs after the age of 40. The procedure is based on technology FemtoLASIK. This means that the laser reshapes the cornea to improve the way the eye focuses light. With Presbyond, the correction is designed to help you see more comfortably at different distances: close up, at intermediate distances and into the distance.

During the procedure, one eye is positioned mainly to look into the distance, whilst the other supports vision at closer ranges. This allows the eyes to work together, and the brain learns to use the images from both eyes in a new way.

Presbyond’s aim is to reduce dependence on glasses — particularly when reading, working at a computer and carrying out everyday activities.

    Who is PRESBYOND® for?

    For people over 40

Presbyond may be the solution for people who find that their close-up vision is becoming less comfortable: text appears blurred, reading requires better lighting, and their eyes tire more quickly.

For people who use their eyesight to work at different distances

This method may be suitable for patients who switch their focus throughout the day between their mobile phone, computer, documents and looking into the distance – for example, whilst working, driving or carrying out everyday activities.

For people with presbyopia and a visual impairment

Presbyond can also be considered in patients who, in addition to presbyopia, have short-sightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. astigmatism.

Using the PRESBYOND® method, we correct*:

    • N
      Short-sightedness: up to –8.0 D
    • N
      Hyperopia: up to +2.0 D
    • N
      Astigmatism: up to 2.0 D

*Indicative range only. The consultation and method choice are determined by your doctor after examination. The final range is based on corneal thickness and geometry, pupil diameter, tear film quality, topography/tomography findings and fundus examination.

The advantages of the PRESBYOND® method

    \

    Less reliance on reading glasses

Presbyond can reduce the need to wear glasses when reading, using a mobile phone, working with documents or using a computer.

    \

    Comfortable vision at various distances

The method is designed for close-up vision, intermediate distances and distance vision.

    \

    FemtoLASIK-based technology

The procedure is carried out using a laser, employing the technology used in the FemtoLASIK method.

    See how the procedure works

The Presbyond procedure follows a similar course to FemtoLASIK. The difference lies in how the correction is planned, taking into account the needs of people with presbyopia.

    Step 1: Laser flap creation

The femtosecond laser precisely creates a thin corneal flap of a thickness and shape tailored to the individual patient. This allows the doctor to proceed to the actual correction stage without using a mechanical blade.

    Step 2: Corneal reshaping

Once the flap has been lifted, the excimer laser shapes the corneal tissue in accordance with an individual correction plan. In the Presbyond method, the plan covers both eyes and takes into account vision at different distances: near, intermediate and far.

    Step 3: Repositioning the flap

The flap is gently repositioned. Thanks to the precision of the procedure, it adheres naturally to the cornea and does not require stitches. Healing takes place spontaneously.

    Procedure

    Day of procedure

You may experience a slight burning sensation and watering. Vision improves the same evening. Rest at home, do not drive.

    Day 1

    First follow-up visit

Your doctor checks the healing of the flap. Most patients can already see clearly. You can return to office work. Avoid eye make-up and intense exercise.

    Month 1

    One-month follow-up

Vision is stabilising. Light non-contact sport is usually fine. Avoid swimming pools, saunas and eye make-up along the eyelid margin. If you experience dryness, carry artificial tears with you.

    Month 3-6

    Further follow-ups

Vision continues to fine-tune. Once your doctor gives the go-ahead, you can usually return to contact sports. If you notice glare or halos at night, this is often temporary.

    Limitations and possible symptoms

    Which rules out the procedure:

    • cataract,
    • a cornea that is too thin or abnormally shaped
    • keratoconus or suspected keratoconus,
    • worsening dry eye syndrome,
    • active eye infections,
    • unstable visual impairment,
    • pregnancy and breastfeeding,
    • certain systemic diseases,
    • no difference in vision between the eyes.

    What you may experience afterwards:

    • dry eyes,
    • a burning sensation or a feeling of grit under the eyelids,
    • photophobia,
    • fluctuations in visual acuity,
    • halos around the lights,
    • greater eye strain during the adaptation period.

      FAQ

We will answer all your questions

Can everyone over 40 have PRESBYOND®?

No. Age and the need for reading glasses are not enough on their own to qualify. The doctor must assess factors such as corneal thickness and shape, the stability of the visual defect, tear film quality, eye dominance, and the condition of the lens, retina and optic nerve. Eye conditions and general health also matter, as does how well the patient is likely to tolerate the difference between the two eyes. If PRESBYOND® is not the best solution, the doctor may suggest a different vision correction method.

      Does PRESBYOND® stop presbyopia?

No. PRESBYOND® does not stop the natural ageing process of the eye. The procedure corrects the way the cornea focuses light, but it does not reverse the biological changes taking place in the eye's lens with age. This means some patients' visual needs may continue to change in the years that follow. That's why it's important to discuss with your doctor before the procedure not just the immediate result, but also how the method fits into further changes in vision after the ages of 40 and 50.

Do the eyes have to get used to seeing after PRESBYOND®?

Yes. A period of adaptation is required after the procedure. The eyes and the brain learn to work together in the new arrangement: one eye focuses more on distant objects, whilst the other focuses on closer distances. For some patients, this adaptation happens quickly; for others, visual comfort improves gradually over the following weeks or months. Clinics describing Laser Blended Vision point out that getting used to the „blended vision” effect may take longer than the basic healing process following LASIK surgery itself. During this time, patients may experience fluctuations in visual acuity, increased eye strain when working at close range, or a difference in how the image is perceived between the two eyes.

      How does PRESBYOND® work?

PRESBYOND® is based on FemtoLASIK technology. The laser reshapes the cornea according to an individual correction plan. The difference is that with PRESBYOND®, each eye has a slightly different task. One eye mainly supports distance vision, while the other helps with near and intermediate vision. Both eyes continue to work together, and the brain learns to use the image in a new way. This approach is called Laser Blended Vision. Put simply, it's about creating a smoother range of vision, rather than setting both eyes to a single distance. This is a genuinely binocular approach to treating presbyopia, different from classic monovision.

Does PRESBYOND® only improve near vision?

No. Presbyond is designed to support vision at several distances: close up, intermediate and far away. This is important because people over the age of 40 rarely need good vision just for reading. Throughout the day, they look at their mobile phones, computers, documents, the faces of people they’re talking to, the road whilst driving, and objects in the distance. Presbyond is designed to help the eyes adapt better to these everyday changes in distance.

Will I no longer need reading glasses after PRESBYOND®?

The aim of PRESBYOND® is to reduce dependence on glasses for reading, phone use, computer work and everyday close-up tasks. However, this does not mean glasses will disappear from every patient's life entirely. In some situations — such as very fine print, poor lighting, long periods of reading, or significant eye fatigue — additional glasses may still be helpful. During the assessment, your doctor evaluates your visual needs and discusses the realistic outcome you can expect in your case.

Can PRESBYOND® make distance vision worse?

The aim of PRESBYOND® is not to sacrifice distance vision for the sake of reading. The method is planned to maintain the best possible visual comfort at various distances. However, it's worth remembering that any presbyopia correction involves a degree of compromise. The doctor needs to assess how important distance vision, computer work, reading, driving and after-dark activities are to you. Based on this, they select the correction plan. That's why qualification for PRESBYOND® should include not just eye examinations, but also a conversation about your lifestyle

Can I drive after PRESBYOND®, including in the evening?

You must not drive on the day of the procedure. You may only resume driving once your doctor has confirmed that your vision is sufficiently good and safe. When driving after dark, factors such as pupil size, night vision quality, the presence of halos, glare around lights and individual adaptation to the new way of seeing are all important. Impaired night vision, glare or halos are described as possible symptoms following Laser Blended Vision procedures; therefore, for people who drive frequently at night, this issue must be discussed in particular during the assessment.

      Does PRESBYOND® hurt?

The procedure is carried out under continuous anaesthesia, so it should not be painful. The patient may feel a touch, slight pressure or brief discomfort, similar to that experienced with FemtoLASIK. After the procedure, you may experience a burning sensation, watery eyes, a feeling of grit under the eyelids, sensitivity to light or temporary blurred vision. These are common symptoms following laser vision correction. The doctor will explain how to use the eye drops and when to contact the clinic if the symptoms are unusual or severe.

How does PRESBYOND® differ from FemtoLASIK?

FemtoLASIK is most commonly used to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism — in other words, to improve mainly distance vision. PRESBYOND® is based on FemtoLASIK technology, but is planned for people with presbyopia. This means the correction takes into account not only distance vision, but also near and intermediate vision, for example when using a computer. You could say that PRESBYOND® is a laser method for patients over 40 whose problem is no longer just a visual defect, but also the natural loss of sharp near vision.
