What is individualization?

How do individualized treatments differ from standard laser vision correction methods?

It’s a bit like comparing a dress or suit from a hanger from one tailored or altered at a tailor’s.

Yes, a well-chosen and executed standard method will give good results, but the individualized one is likely to give better and faster healing and, for example, less undesirable light effects in the first months after surgery (so-called higher-order aberrations).

Individualized treatments at Blikpol are performed based on individual 3D corneal maps made on the iDesign™ platform, an ultra-accurate diagnostic device. These are directly uploaded to the laser.

In individualized methods, it is the 3D maps of your eyes uploaded to the laser that form the basis of the correction performed. In classic methods, treatments are based on averages; the laser does not use any corneal maps directly.

Individualizing the vision correction procedure by mapping your cornea, increases its precision, and most importantly, allows to reduce existing or prevent the formation of new so-called higher order aberrations. These are effects seen during the healing period – in the dark – stronger flares, rings around light sources, glare, doubling of the image. For this reason, among others, iLASIK (individualized, wavefront-guided FemtoLASIK) is the only method used by NASA and the U.S. military for vision surgery of their personnel, soldiers, pilots, cosmonauts.
