Step 3

Recovery

Our patients regularly tell us that the first week after laser vision correction is less discomfort than the first week after many dental procedures. Wanting to make sure we’ve done everything we can to make sure this is the case for you as well – there’s a list of recommendations and good advice to keep in mind in the first days and weeks after the procedure.

Recommendations after laser vision correction surgery

  • use ophthalmic drops given by the nurses after the procedure according to the doctor’s instructions written on the information sheet,
  • use sunglasses outdoors for a month after surgery, not just on sunny days. The glasses are also designed to protect the eye from wind and possible foreign body falling into the eye,
  • sleep in plastic covers provided by the staff of our facility.

What you can’t do after the procedure

  • in the first few days after laser vision correction surgery, try not to drive – the treatments may initially interfere with your visibility while driving,
  • when correcting both eyes at the same time, we recommend a week of medical leave or vacation if possible,
  • avoid swimming in a pool, hot baths and trips to so-called “warm countries” for 2 months,
  • when washing, try to close your eyes to avoid getting soap, shampoo and water into the eye,
  • do not use varnish, lotions, creams and make-up around the eye area for about 2 weeks,
  • do not tan for about 1-2 months – the sun and tanning beds dry out the cornea excessively,
  • avoid heavy physical exertion, contact sports i.e. boxing, karate, etc. for 1-2 months,
  • limit smoking
  • avoid being in dust and smoke.

Laser vision correction – possible side effects after laser vision correction surgery

  • The first days after the procedure: mild discomfort, foreign body sensation under the eyelid, burning and photophobia.
  • Up to a week after the procedure: hypersensitivity to light, hazy and blurred vision, fluctuations in visual acuity.
  • Up to 3 months after treatment: glare, halos around light sources, difficulty when driving after dark.
  • Up to 6 months after treatment: dry eye, occasional fluctuations in visual acuity.

How long does it take to recover from laser vision correction?

After corneal modeling, the eyes are allowed to rest. Within 3 months after the procedure, your eyesight will return to full function (provided you follow the doctor’s instructions!). During this time, a number of dexterities should be limited so as to protect the eyes. Examples include avoiding sunbathing, humid climates, swimming pool visits, or sweat getting into your eyes. The more attentive you are, the shorter the rest period will be. Of course, you should also limit your work at monitors. This will help your eyes return to full function quickly.

L4 after laser vision correction

The next few days after vision treatment will be the most difficult for you – during this time your eyes may be much less functional. You should also get a solid dose of rest during this time, so L4 after these treatments is highly advisable. Especially if you work at a monitor or do manual labor or in dusty, dusty rooms. You should also limit heavy lifting and any situation where sweat can get into your eyes.

The exemption that laser vision correction will require of us is, of course, an individual issue that each person must decide for themselves. For some, the recovery period is faster and smoother, while for others it is a bit more difficult. It also all depends on the type of work you do. In the case of manual labor, but also work with monitors, a few days off is a reasonable minimum. It also all depends on your individual doctor’s recommendations. Remember to follow them – after all, this is about your health. There is nothing more important.
