    Short-sightedness in children

What do you need to know?

    • Krótkowzroczność u dzieci polega na dobrym widzeniu z bliska i rozmytym obrazie z daleka, dotyka coraz więcej najmłodszych.
    • Symptoms of myopia include holding objects close to the eyes, squinting and headaches when reading.
    • If myopia is suspected, visit an ophthalmologist immediately and check your child's vision regularly.

Short-sightedness, also known as myopia, is a common visual defect that can occur in children of all ages. It manifests itself by the fact that the child can see close objects well, but objects at a distance become blurred for him or her. How do you recognise this defect in young children and what should you do if it occurs? Can myopia in a child be reversed? What are the symptoms of myopia at such a young age?

    Short-sightedness in a child

Can myopia in children reverse itself?

    Short-sightedness in children - symptoms

It is useful to know the typical symptoms that may suggest your child is suffering from myopia. Here are some of them:

    • The child holds books, a smartphone or other objects very close to the eyes.
    • Dziecko mruży oczy podczas próby patrzenia na odległość.
    • Complains of headaches or fatigue when reading or watching TV.

Short-sightedness in children - when do glasses?

If you notice symptoms in your child that suggest myopia, make an appointment with an ophthalmologist immediately. A professional eye examiner can diagnose the visual defect and decide whether glasses or lenses are needed. However, due to the young age of the patient, ophthalmologists recommend glasses because they are definitely easier to care for. The insertion and removal of lenses requires hygiene and precision. In this case, therefore, a child of a few years may have a problem with self-application.

    Causes of myopia in children

The causes of myopia in children can vary. Genetics play an important role - if parents suffer from myopia, there is a greater risk that the child will also have this defect. Increased use of electronic devices and too little time spent on outdoor activities are factors that can also contribute to the development of myopia. As more and more children are exposed to screens (TV, laptops, tablets, phones) every day from an early age, the number of children struggling with visual impairment, myopia in particular, is increasing.

    Myopia in children - treatment

    Ważne pytania i odpowiedzi

    • The treatment of myopia in children consists of vision correction with glasses or contact lenses. Regular visits to the ophthalmologist, control of time in front of the screen, eye exercises and correction of any other visual defects are important in the treatment process and monitoring the progression of the visual defect, especially as more and more children are struggling with myopia every year.

    • With myopia, it is not always necessary to wear glasses all the time. Wearing them depends on the degree of the defect and your individual needs. Your ophthalmologist will determine when to wear your glasses - for example, at school or when watching TV. In some cases, glasses may only be worn periodically when needed.rnrn
