In the context of the eye, light that passes through the cornea and lens must be refracted in such a way that the light rays focus accurately on the retina - the back of the eye, which processes the image and sends it to the brain. When refraction is correct, the image is sharp and clear, whether we are looking at near or distant objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In refractive defects, light does not focus properly on the retina, leading to blurred vision. These defects can have various causes, such as the shape of the eye, the cornea or problems with the elasticity of the lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Refractive errors of the eye<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are four main refractive defects that can affect the quality of vision:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Short-sightedness (myopia)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Myopia is a visual defect in which the image is focused in front of the retina, instead of on the surface of the retina. People suffering from myopia can see close objects well, but have problems seeing distant objects, which become blurred.
