In this article, we would like to familiarise you with the topic of pregnancy and its termination in patients who have undergone ophthalmic surgery in the past or have problems related to the organ of vision. Every woman who finds out she is pregnant should think about visiting an ophthalmologist in addition to seeing her gynaecologist. Do you think this is an exaggeration? Nothing of the sort. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Of course, the need to visit an ophthalmologist is not for the sake of the foetus or to ensure the proper course of the pregnancy, but out of concern for the health of one's own eyes. Hormonal changes in the pregnant woman's body can affect the deterioration of visual acuity, but the greatest risk is pathological changes to the retina, whose condition should be verified by a funduscopic examination. There are also several indications for caesarean sections related to the organ of vision, which every woman in hope should be familiar with. During the nine months of pregnancy, every woman should have her eyes examined at least once by a specialist.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which ladies in particular should get tested?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Above all, at the beginning of the pregnancy period, it is advisable* to direct your steps to an ophthalmologist for patients who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">- suffer from diabetic retinopathy<br>- have undergone retinal surgery or have degeneration of the retinal periphery<br>- have <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/myopia-8\/\"   title=\"myopia\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"201\">myopia<\/a> degenerating<br>- have undergone laser vision correction<br>- choruj\u0105 na jaskr\u0119 lub <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/keratoconus\/\"   title=\"sto\u017cek rog\u00f3wki\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"86\">sto\u017cek rog\u00f3wki<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Istniej\u0105 bowiem powa\u017cne ryzyka powik\u0142a\u0144 okulistycznych* w przypadku porodu drogami natury. Do wysokiego ryzyka nale\u017c\u0105 m.in.: nawracaj\u0105ce krwotoki do cia\u0142a szklistego, odwarstwienie siatk\u00f3wki i zranienia oka operowanego w okresie do 1 miesi\u0105ca przed rozwi\u0105zaniem, niekt\u00f3re stany pooperacyjne, zaawansowana jaskra ze zmianami w polu widzenia, a tak\u017ce <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/blog\/diabetic-retinopathy-causes-symptoms-treatment\/\"   title=\"diabetic retinopathy\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"297\">diabetic retinopathy<\/a>, kt\u00f3ra stanowi bardzo wyra\u017ane wskazanie do wykonania ci\u0119cia cesarskiego. Zwykle pacjentki o tak powa\u017cnych schorzeniach oczu s\u0105 \u015bwiadome ci\u0105g\u0142ej kontroli okulistycznej, ale na wszelki wypadek wolimy przypomnie\u0107, \u017ce okres ci\u0105\u017cowy mo\u017ce dodatkowo zagra\u017ca\u0107 ich oczom. Niezadbanie o swoje oczy w czasie ci\u0105\u017cy mo\u017ce powodowa\u0107 znaczne pogorszenie wzroku, kt\u00f3re mo\u017ce wykracza\u0107 r\u00f3wnie\u017c poza okres ci\u0105\u017cy. <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/vision-test\/\"   title=\"Eye examination\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"69\">Eye examination<\/a> is very important both when planning a natural birth and by caesarean section.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/co-ophthalmology\/abstract\/2021\/11000\/pregnancy_and_the_eye.6.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eye examination during pregnancy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also pregnant women, in the second and third trimester of pregnancy, following eye surgery should not delay visiting an eye specialist. It is particularly important to check the eyes after <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/blog\/co-to-jest-witrektomia-oka\/\"   title=\"vitrectomy\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"383\">vitrectomy<\/a>, but also after laser correction. If the thickness of the cornea after surgery is less than 350 micrometres - this is a serious indication for a caesarean section. It happens that women's eyesight deteriorates with natural childbirth, so it is very important to contact your ophthalmologist for a consultation about having a caesarean section. This can inhibit adverse changes to the eyeball, which can result in significant deterioration of vision. It has been recognised that there are no contraindications to natural childbirth for conditions such as: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Glaucoma without visual field changes, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retinal detachment operated on more than 1 year before resolution with total retinal detachment. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in order to be sure that our eyes are in no danger and that an eye defect will not force us to have a caesarean section, it is essential to make a follow-up appointment with your ophthalmologist. Don't let your eyesight deteriorate in childbirth and take care of the health of your eyes.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/ijo\/Fulltext\/2020\/68080\/Motherhood__What_every_ophthalmologist_needs_to.4.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit to an ophthalmologist during pregnancy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zmiany, kt\u00f3re charakteryzuj\u0105 si\u0119 niskim ryzykiem powik\u0142a\u0144 okulistycznych po naturalnym porodzie, to chocia\u017cby: kr\u00f3tkowzroczno\u015b\u0107 bez zmian w plamce, jaskra bez zmian w polu widoczno\u015bci, odwarstwienie siatk\u00f3wki operowane w okresie wi\u0119cej ni\u017c pe\u0142nego roku przed rozwi\u0105zaniem z ca\u0142kowitym przy\u0142o\u017ceniem siatk\u00f3wki. Tak\u017ce \u015brednio i bardzo zaawansowany sto\u017cek rog\u00f3wki po zabiegu cross-linking wymaga sprawdzenia, czy choroba nie post\u0119puje i jaka jest obecna grubo\u015b\u0107 rog\u00f3wki. Natomiast zmiany degeneracyjne obwodu oka oraz zwyrodnienia, kt\u00f3re mog\u0105 predysponowa\u0107 do <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/blikpol.pl\/en\/blog\/retinal-detachment-causes-symptoms-and-treatment\/\"   title=\"retinal detachments\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"323\">retinal detachments<\/a>, powinny by\u0107 zabezpieczone przy pomocy fotokoagulacji laserowej w okresie 1 miesi\u0105ca przed rozwi\u0105zaniem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An ophthalmologist in pregnancy is therefore a necessity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of pregnant women do not realise the consequences of not having their eyes examined before giving birth. The changes that take place in a pregnant woman's body are very great, and it is therefore recommended that every pregnant woman, especially those affected by a visual defect, visit an ophthalmologist. The deterioration of vision can have long-term effects and last not only during pregnancy. The visual system of pregnant women should be thoroughly examined long before the planned birth. So take care of the condition of your eyes whether you will be using natural childbirth, which significantly increases venous pressure in the upper part of the body, or a caesarean section, which may be necessary in some cases of having a visual defect. Pregnant women should pay special attention not only to the health of their little one, but also to their own health.
